Zoom Classroom Visit - Length 45 minutes
Eric answers questions from students and reads a suspenseful scene from one of his mysteries. He points out his use of the five senses and emphasizes the importance of planning in advance of writing a story.
The presentation includes the story of how the reluctant readers in Eric’s class inspired him to begin writing such books as Murder on the Canadian, the First Nations mystery The Unmasking of ‘Ksan and more than 20 other stories set in real Canadian locations both large and small. “It was AWESOME…very fun and the kids were sure engaged even though it was Zoom.”
- A teacher in Terrace, BC
Zoom 'Hands-on' Writing Workshop
This workshop runs for 60 minutes—at times the students work individually, at other times they work in pairs. A variety of writing activities help students to develop characters and settings from their own experience. Eric then suggests how students might develop a story making use of their character and setting creations.
Regarding the workshop, a Victoria teacher wrote to say: “It was FANTASTC! The kids were
amazing for a rainy afternoon, you would not have known it. This event really got them
thinking and inspired. Sometimes you just never know, but it was super.”
